CAN do's
The following simple questions should stimulate some CAN
dos for building your team.
Objectives - Does the team know what the team is set
up to deliver? Could they articulate this? Do they accept
this as the purpose of the team?
Results - Is each team member clear on what performance
standards are expected of them? Do they know what the consequences
for success or failure will be?
Membership - Is the size of the team right (small
teams are best - about 8 per team)? Do they have the necessary
skills? How do they interact? Are their conflicts - hidden
or exposed that need tackling?
Consultation - Do I allow team to debate issues and
concerns? Do I genuinely consult with staff? Am I encouraging
suggestions, ideas and creativity?
Visibility - Do I meet with individual team members?
Do I actively represent their interests with others? Do I
appear enthusiastic about what the team is doing? Do I "muck-in"
when things are tough?
These answers will help build a strong team that has the
CAN do attitude.
